Using USDA FoodData Central values, dark chocolate in the 70–85% cacao range contains roughly 559 mg potassium per 100 g. Taking the midpoint of that range (77.5%) gives a ratio of about 7.2 mg of potassium per 100 g for every 1% of cacao.
The tool applies this equation:
Potassium (mg) = 7.2 × cacao% × serving grams ÷ 100

Why does my chocolate's nutrition label differ from the result?
Potassium naturally varies with cocoa origin, fermentation, roasting, and processing. Added milk, cream, or soy lecithin can also dilute or alter mineral content. Most estimates fall within ±15% of the label; use the package value when one is printed.
Can I use this calculator for milk chocolate or white chocolate?
No. Our linear cacao model works only for dark chocolate where cocoa solids dominate. Milk chocolate has much lower cacao solids plus dairy, and white chocolate has essentially no cocoa solids, so its potassium content is far lower and does not follow this formula.
